Spring Clean with Home Edit Theory

I typically watch my favorite YouTube Channels while training for an upcoming marathon for entertainment and inspiration. While watching Alexandra Gater’s amazing Interior Design Youtube Channel, I came across a video about the Home Edit Theory. Basically in sum, the Home Edit was originated two women to help synthesize, organize and edit houses.

First I watched Alexandra take on the Home Edit theory in her very own pantry and bathroom and I was inspired to organize my own pantry, linen closet, sink storage, etc! Basically all the catchall areas were going to get organized with Home Edit brand clear bins so everything has a set space.

The Clear Bins

The exciting factor is that the organizational packages are relatively cheap at Walmart. You can get about 10 piece Acrylic set for about $65. I ended up buying about 3 of the sets for all of my areas for a home edit that cost about $195.

Bucket out what you have by type

What makes sense to put into clear bins? Give each bin a title and type each one out based on the room you tackle. Once you write them out you can ultimately create spaces to put crap! Here are a variety of bin names that I organized:

Kitchen

  • Coffee
  • Snacks
  • Oil & Vinegar
  • Baking & Cooking

Downstairs Closet

  • Dish Towels & Trivets
  • Hand Towels & Oven Mits
  • Placemats
  • Linen Napkins
  • Tablecloths
  • Dyson Parts
  • Toilet Paper

Cleaning

  • Bathroom Cleaning
  • Kitchen Cleaning
  • All Surface Cleaning
  • Dishwasher
  • Trash Bags

Under Sink Upstairs

  • Self Care
  • Cleaning

Closet Upstairs

  • First Aid Kit
  • Light Bulbs & Home
  • Linen Closet
  • Products

When Organizing & Editing Bedding

I personally found these spiffy sheet set organizers and found that they organize the linen closet beautifully. I went ahead and wrote out each of the sheets that my boyfriend and I have accumulated.

Sheet sets

  • Ralph Lauren \ Queen \ White \ 100% Cotton
  • Beautyrest \ Queen \ White \ 100% Cotton
  • Dwell Studio \ Queen \ Blue & White Diamond \  100% Cotton
  • Beautyrest \ Queen \ Beige & White Print \ 100% Polyester

Count how many bins you need and then purchase your unique bin sets.

Make sure you look at the dimensions of the bins to see how many you can stack or fit side by side in your closet spaces. This will help you understand how many you should purchase!

I was all prepared to fill the bins before the bins even arrived. Once they came in the mail, I was ready to go!

Creating Labels

Once the bins arrived in the mail and I put the stuff in the bins. At the point everything felt right, my boyfriend went ahead and kindly printed all of the finalized bucket titles using his label maker. He let me pick out a pretty font ‘Atlanta’ for the labels and he was somehow able to automate the printing. The label maker printed right from my notes and it took no time at all.

Results

While I’ve always been organized in all honesty, the bins help contain the madness and give items an official clear place. I can tell my boyfriend that an item will be in x bin and he’ll get what I’m saying. I think the most improvement would be in the linen closet possibly because that was a hot mess. I actually took many of the before pictures after organizing items by type so the madness looks more contained than it actually was, hah!

Ongoing Organization

As I write this I am thinking of additional areas I could edit and organize further. I’m so excited about this spring 2025 home refresh with the Home Edit bins.
