Late-Summer Date Idea: Apple Picking and Sushi
This past weekend, my boyfriend and I enjoyed a glorious late-summer date. We decided to go apple picking early in the season at Dowse Orchards in Sherborn, Massachusetts.
This turned out to be a delightful idea. The drive was just under an hour from our home, and the late-summer air felt brisk and refreshing as we cruised with the yellow Bronco’s top down. When we arrived at the quaint, picturesque orchard, we spotted a stand selling beer and a charming little hut where you could purchase apple bags.
We opted for the hut first, picking out a medium-sized bag for our prized apples. The girl at the stand kindly explained where to find each of the five apple varieties spread across the orchard. Naturally, my boyfriend and I decided we had to sample one of each. I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw a “sin bin”, a tip jar for eating apples while out and about in the orchard. I thought that was clever.
Before embarking on our apple scavenger hunt, my boyfriend treated me to a pumpkin beer. We sat for a while, soaking in the farm-like atmosphere and enjoying each other’s company. After a few minutes, we took our beers along as we searched for only the best apples to fill our bag. We ended up picking one to four apples of each of the five varieties and, by the end, we felt like true apple connoisseurs that were able to describe and compare the unique taste of each apple kind.

Here are some photos of the orchards and us.

To wrap up the day, my boyfriend and I tried a new sushi spot, Kaiyo Sushi, in Belmont, Mass. We ordered the spicy trio sushi and the Dynamite role and were absolutely elated.
What a wonderful day!!
